Jason and Jimmy were hard at work on their new ORC album. They were out shopping on Saturday, January 11, 1997, and went to McDonald's to eat. While they ate the discussion turned to the name of their album. They had been thinking about this for quite some time. And then Jimmy mentioned "purging the great abyss." It had a nice ring to it! They had found their album title!
So they wouldn't forget it, Jason had Jimmy write it down on a napkin. They took the napkin home with them. Thus the album was named.
Today the napkin resides in the Northwest Wing of the Metal XOR Studio Museum.
